Dance Party NightLife
Dance your way into summer as NightLife celebrates the rhythm of the night. Whether you’re a skilled showstopper or curious mover and shaker, find the beat at workshops throughout the museum.

Dance Workshops (African Hall)
6:45 pm, Polish off your boots and get in line for a country western and line dancing class with Michael Metzger.
7:45 pm, Learn to stride with grace while picking up ballroom dancing tips from pro dancing duo Michael Eric Koptke and Chelsea Farrah.
9:00 pm, Demo & b-boy workshop with KnuckleNeckTribe
Whales Exhibit (Level 2)
6:00-9:30 pm, Marvel at colossal whale skeletons in the Academy’s latest exhibit Whales: Giants of the Deep.
Contemporary Dance Showcase (Piazza)
8:00 & 9:00 pm, Catch a contemporary dance showcase including a performance by ODC/Dance, co-hosted by ODC Deputy Director Christy Bolingbroke and Company Manager Joseph Copley.
See some of SF’s top dance companies perform modern dance pieces during two 30-minute showcases—prepare to be awed!
Peacock Spiders (Project Lab)
6:30-9:00 pm, Humans aren’t the only ones who use movement to express themselves. At the Project Lab, chat with UC Berkeley’s Madeline Girard as she discusses how male peacock spiders use their colorful bodies and rhythmic movements to attract the attention of female companions.

Note: The 4-story Rainforest exhibit closes at 7:45pm and planetarium passes are distributed to visitors on a first-come first-served basis. Special programs and lectures may have limited seating and admission will also be made available to visitors on a first-come, first-served basis.

A variety of food options are available at NightLife from 6-9:30pm, including The Academy Cafe, The Terrace located in the West Garden, and The Academy Cafe Food Cart located in the front lobby.
Enjoy a different fresh seasonal "craft on draft" cocktail at each NightLife bar area designed by our resident mixologist Shane McKnight!
